Labour Weekend in Hawkes Bay heralds the start of our summer locally, with BBQ season really ramping up as people have a good ole spring clean, and can start to enjoy the outdoors a lot more.
This really influences the menu for On Your Plate, as we are huge fans of cooking outdoors, and as a butcher I reckon you can’t beat the flavour that the BBQ imparts on the meat. It really is a great way to cook, also makes way less dishes, which is also a bonus.
With the warmer weather, the local vegetable crop is on verge of exploding, having been slowed slightly by the patch of cooler and wetter weather we have just been through. I, personally, have really been enjoying the asparagus, but am equally looking forward to the likes of corn, watermelon, and stone fruit making
an appearance in the recipes later in the season.
Show Weekend is a busy time for Hawkes Bay, especially on the roads, so take care out there, and if you are travelling, please do so carefully.
