This week we welcome a new supplier to On Your Plate and your pantry. Murray and Helen from Te Mata Figs grow twenty-three varieties of fresh fig in their figgery on Napier Road, just out of Havelock North. As well as selling fresh figs they also produce a beautiful selection of products, including preserves, relishes and fig salami.
I’m looking forward to more experimenting in the kitchen with these figgy treats and include them in recipes in the cooler months to come. For those of you who have ordered the lamb shanks on the 5th night we have the gorgeous Fig Preserve that is perfect with the rich lamb and spices. Te Mata Figs is another one of our lovely suppliers that can be found at the Hastings Farmers Market every Sunday.
I hope you enjoy what’s in the box this week. It’s very hard to pick a favourite. This week’s menu is full of some of my favourite things. Stir-fry, schnitzel, pasta and lamb shanks, yum!
